The Interiors Contributor’s story
By Phoebe Oldrey of Smartstyle Interiors

Phoebe graduated from renowned Interior design college – KLC School of Design in 2002 and began her professional career working with Mark Humphrey, who is regularly listed in House & Gardens’ top 100 interior designers. She then joined Sue Symons Interiors, which has more than 25 years’ experience preparing designs for an exclusive, wealthy, residential client base. During her career, Phoebe has been involved with projects ranging in scale from small kitchen conversions through to the complete revamp of a 48 room mansion.

In 2006 she took the plunge and set up her own company Smartstyle Interiors, which offers bespoke Interior Design services and through this has worked on some amazing projects and built a reputation for the personal nature of her design service and extraordinary attention to detail.

2012 was another big year for Phoebe and Smartstyle, as they relocated to Tunbridge Wells from North London and brought her years of experience to Kent and Sussex. In 2013 Phoebe was welcomed as a full professional member of SBID (Society of British Interior Designers) and Associate member of BIID (The British Institute of Interior Design). Design origination requires high professional standards in their members, looking for both creativity and competence, which is something Phoebe strives to deliver to all her clients.

Alongside running Smartstyle, Phoebe has written a number of interior design articles for Glamour magazine, is currently a regular contributor to the award winning blog “The Tunbridge Wells Mum” as well as blogging on Smartstyle’s website. Phoebe is delighted to be working alongside KaLa Architecture and for the opportunity to share her work and ideas.

How an Interior designer contributes to an architectural development

Interior Designers can bring a lot to the process of turning it from just a house to a home by looking at reconfiguring space, design lighting, kitchen and bathroom schemes, select materials for walls and floors as well as specifying furniture plans and help to select decorative accessories. Our homes are the most important sanctuaries to us and our biggest financial asset. They can influence our mood and wellbeing, as well as housing not only family members but all the stuff of our lives. The benefits to getting this right are immense. I love creating a space that a client loves and a home that reflects them.

The Smartstyle service is as individual as each of our interior designs. Not only do we look at what you want to achieve, but we also care for the way you want to achieve it. That’s why we are so flexible in the way we interact with you and the levels of support we offer.

It could be that a brief consultation and practical advice is all that’s required. Maybe you feel you would benefit from having drawings professionally prepared. Or perhaps you would like us to work with you to agree the concepts and then physically manage every aspect to project completion.

Smartstyle is all about you. By starting off in the right direction we can help you reach your goal quickly and efficiently. In essence, there are three levels to our service, Consultation, Design only and Design and Implementation. However, if your needs change, you can always step up to the next level if it suits you better.
